3555 Cesar Chavez St.
San Francisco between Valencia and Guerrero
Sutter Health, one of the wealthiest hospital corporations in California with $587 million in profits last year, is abandoning its commitment to maintain comprehensive hospital services at St. Luke’s, San Leandro , and Santa Rosa . Sutter has already begun slashing services at St. Luke’s and plans to completely shut down acute care services at the hospital.
Sutter Health’s plans to abandon the neighborhoods around St. Luke’s Hospital will hit hardest among Latino, African-American, and other low-income area residents. Sutter plans to shift hospital and emergency care services from St. Luke’s to facilities serving wealthier populations and communities that also now serve fewer Latino and African-American patients.
Over 5,000 nurses at 13 Sutter facilities are going on strike December 13 and 14 to demand safe staffing at all times, improved retirement security, and secure health benefits of RNs. Nurses are also demanding that Sutter Health maintain comprehensive hospital services in all of its communities and that it keep St. Luke’s hospital open.
